An assault gunboat refers to a specific class of gunboat employed by the Galactic Empire's naval forces, as well as other factions. The Death Star's fleet included a variety of starships, from massive dreadnoughts down to the smaller assault gunboats, numbering in the hundreds. One particular type, the SS-54 assault ship, was a class of assault gunboat that was incorrectly classified as a light freighter.
