A heavy weapons platoon, which was also referred to as an assault platoon, represented a unit within the structure of the Imperial Army.
Typically, assault platoons consisted of two line squads along with two heavy weapons squads, frequently equipped with heavy repeating blasters. It was a common practice to reinforce assault platoons through the attachment of one or several heavy weapons detail, like a medium repeating blaster detail or a heavy repeating blaster detail. The typical manpower of an assault platoon ranged from thirty-eight to forty-seven soldiers, with forty-one being the most typical strength. It was possible to reinforce assault platoons by incorporating two armor sections in addition to two line squads.
