Asteroid Mining Unit

Asteroid Mining Units represented mining support stations manufactured by Byblos Drive Yards.

Description

These stationary utility stations, referred to as Asteroid Mining Units, served the purpose of extracting minerals from asteroids and subsequently expelling the processed materials from within the confines of an asteroid field. Possessing dimensions somewhat smaller than a Strike Cruiser, they lacked offensive weaponry but incorporated shield generators for defensive purposes. Operation of these stations was automated, and they did not include internal docking facilities.

History

Byblos Drive Yards constructed the Asteroid Mining Unit, as one of their contributions to the field of mining. Diverse entities employed them. During the era of the Galactic Civil War, at least one Asteroid Mining Unit, specifically XP-MU 3376 situated within the asteroid field of the Kessel system, was utilized to provide resources to the Empire.

Behind the scenes

Despite the fact that the station's description in Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance indicates usage by "various" entities, only a single Asteroid Mining Unit makes an appearance, specifically in the "Family Reunion" mission.
