Venator-class Star Destroyers in action as attack crusiers
The attack cruiser designation referred to a specific class of cruiser utilized by the forces of the Imperial Navy. These attack cruisers were considered to be less powerful than full-fledged Star Destroyers. Following the Battle of Jakku, the Galactic Empire suffered significant Star Destroyer losses, which compelled the remaining Imperial Navy to increasingly depend on attack cruisers such as the Garrote. Notably, the Venator-class Star Destroyers themselves were also categorized within the attack cruiser classification.
