The Assault on Bannistar Station represented one particular engagement during the widespread Galactic Civil War. It occurred because the vessel known as the Rebel One inadvertently arrived at the location of Bannistar Station.
Following the catastrophe that occurred at Deepspace Besh, the significantly damaged Rebel One executed a random jump through hyperspace, which resulted in its arrival at Bannistar Station. Rather than immediately retreating, the Rebel forces made the decision to infiltrate the station with the intention of destroying it.
Upon the Imperial forces becoming aware of the presence of the Rebel One, they approached the vessel with the intention of conducting an inspection. However, the crew of the Rebel One intentionally overloaded the ship's engines, causing it to explode. Utilizing the resulting explosion as a means of diversion, a Rebel infiltration team managed to gain access to Bannistar Station. Before they could carry out their sabotage mission, the entire team was taken into custody. One Rebel operative, who had managed to evade capture, proceeded with the mission independently. Shortly thereafter, she was also discovered and forced to escape. She ended up in a precarious position above a Star Destroyer undergoing refueling and released a thermal detonator down the fuel line. The subsequent explosion resulted in the destruction of a substantial portion of the station. Capitalizing on the resulting confusion, the captured Rebels were able to liberate themselves and flee the station using a commandeered shuttle. With assistance from Dagger Squadron, dispatched by Admiral Gial Ackbar, they successfully returned to the Alliance Fleet.
