Bantam Spectra logo From 1991, specifically with the release of Heir to the Empire, until 1999, with the publication of Tales from the New Republic, the Star Wars novels were put out by Bantam Spectra, which is the science-fiction focused division of Bantam Books and the Bantam Dell Publishing Group. After that period, Del Rey took over the publishing of new novels, though the Bantam Spectra logo can still be found on reprints of the novels they originally published.

Founded in 1945, Bantam Books is a division of Random House and holds the distinction of being the largest mass market paperback publisher in the United States, as well as a prominent hardcover publisher.
