A baptism was a somber ceremony performed by the Nightsisters of Dathomir. This ritual, making use of dark magicks, served to officially recognize an individual as a true member of the Nightsisters. During the era of the Clone Wars, Nightsister clans conducted these baptisms in a oily underground lake situated below the Nightsister lair.
This ceremony was enacted beneath the Nightsister lair on Dathomir, and it necessitated the presence of the Nightsisters' Mother – a role Talzin filled during the Clone Wars – alongside several other Nightsisters. The Mother would interrogate the aspiring Nightsister to ascertain their devotion to the clan. If deemed worthy, the candidate would be submerged in the waters of the lake below the Nightsister lair. The Mother would also enshroud the Nightsister in magical ichor before raising them from the lake. For a fleeting moment, the individual's eyes would roll back, then return to normal, marking the commencement of their life as a Nightsister.
Following the baptism, the Nightsisters would host a celebratory feast to welcome their newest Sister.

One such baptism transpired during the Clone Wars, when Mother Talzin performed the ritual on Asajj Ventress. Ventress had journeyed to Dathomir seeking re-acceptance into her clan, having been exiled for a considerable time after serving as an apprentice to Count Dooku.
