Barbo

Barbo, operating in Mos Espa back in 32 BBY, was a modest Gran merchant. He ran a mechanical shop, primarily dealing in components for podracers, such as fuel converters and servo control systems.

His path crossed with that of Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, who sought to barter for components needed by Anakin Skywalker to repair his podracer for participation in the Boonta Eve Classic podrace. Barbo suggested Jinn speak with D'zor, an outlaw residing just outside his shop with his band of thugs. He granted Jinn entrance to the rear of his establishment, a decision that endangered the Jedi's life when D'Zor and his thugs ambushed him. Jinn was compelled to defend himself, resulting in their deaths and the destruction of a repeating blaster that D'zor used for protection. Jinn then acquired the fuel converter.

Behind the scenes

Barbo is a character in the 1999 video game adaptation, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace video game, with Tom Kane providing his voice. As Jinn, the player can interact with Barbo in the town to obtain parts. This article operates under the assumption that the player chose to do so. The game also presents the option of using a mind trick on Barbo to get a part, but despite Barbo's apparent agreement, the game mechanics prevent the trick from succeeding.
