Barenth ecological disaster
By the time of the New Republic's governance, a significant ecological catastrophe befell the planet of Barenth. In the vicinity of an ancient laboratory, this catastrophe manifested as a groundquake that inflicted damage upon the facility. The healer Baji was present at the laboratory when this occurred and, as a result, committed to living at the facility for the remainder of his days to try and restore the health of the plants within.
Prelude
Around the time when the New Republic was in power, the Ho'Din healer named Baji made a visit to an ancient laboratory located on the planet Barenth. His purpose was to conduct research into healing remedies.
The disaster
During his visit, an ecological disaster impacted Barenth, specifically affecting the area where the laboratory stood. A groundquake caused the collapse of several buildings within the facility. Simultaneously, Baji quickly gathered unique plant specimens along with their seeds that were essential for his research, and then departed from the laboratory.
Aftermath
Upon returning to the laboratory to investigate, Baji discovered that the grounds of the facility, along with the plants situated there, had been corrupted by a radiant contamination. Moved by his compassion for the damaged plants—and in accordance with the species-wide reverence the Ho'Din held for plant life—Baji decided to make the Barenth laboratory his home for the rest of his life, dedicating himself to the task of healing the plants. Baji later recounted the Barenth disaster in a rhyming verse, which was eventually included in the book titled The Essential Guide to Alien Species. This book itself drew upon the notes compiled by Senior Anthropologist Mammon Hoole.
Behind the scenes
The Barenth ecological disaster found mention in the 2001 reference book titled The Essential Guide to Alien Species, authored by Ann Margaret Lewis.
