Barium Frizz

The Barium Frizz was a type of drink that Wuher, a human bartender working at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in the Mos Eisley settlement on the planet Tatooine located in the Outer Rim Territories, invented. This beverage was among the most requested of Wuher's creations and shared a moniker with barium liquid, a product available at Dex's Diner on Coruscant, a Core Worlds planet, sometime between 28 BBY and 18 BBY. During a 0 BBY shift at the cantina, Wuher automatically concocted drinks like the Barium Frizz, as his mind was preoccupied reflecting on his interactions with the droid C2-R4 and the heavily pheromone-infused scent of Greedo, the Rodian bounty hunter, from earlier that day.

Behind the scenes

The short story "Be Still My Heart: The Bartender's Tale," penned by David Bischoff and featured in the 1995 anthology Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina, marked the debut of the Barium Frizz. The capitalized form of the drink's name later appeared in issue sixty-seven of De Agostini's magazine, The Official Star Wars Fact File, which was published around April 9, 2003. In reality, barium is a chemical element and a metal that naturally exists in the form of chemical compounds. While all soluble barium compounds pose a toxic threat to mammals, the insoluble barium sulfate finds use as a radiocontrast agent during X-ray imaging of the human gastrointestinal tract.
