The base nose flute served as a musical instrument. A few of these instruments found their way into a Turan band circa 3 ABY, where they were played during a performance held at a tibanna mining colony located on the planet Bespin.
The short story "Payback: The Tale of Dengar," penned by Dave Wolverton and featured in the 1996 anthology Tales of the Bounty Hunters, offered a fleeting reference to base nose flutes.
