The Battle of Azure Spaceport represents an engagement from the opening period of the Clone Wars. During this clash, Separatist forces managed to track Jedi figures Obi-Wan Kenobi, Siri Tachi, Anakin Skywalker, and Senator Padmé Amidala by using a tracking beacon that had been planted in a codebreaker, which was thought to be secure. Talesan Fry had brought this device, intending to hand it over to the Old Republic at a secret base located on the planet Azure.
The base was poorly defended and faced a significantly larger Separatist fleet. Ultimately, Republic forces were compelled to relinquish control of the planet. General Solomahal, who commanded the base, was determined to prevent the codebreaker from falling into Separatist hands, and ensured its destruction before he was taken prisoner.
When the Republic forces learned of the impending Separatist assault, the Jedi pilots launched in their starfighters to delay the advancing droids until clone reinforcements could arrive. Padmé, along with Taly, departed in a starship, aiming to jump to hyperspace and escape the battle. Meanwhile, Anakin led General Solomahal's most skilled pilots against the overwhelming droid tri-fighters. As the enemy began targeting civilian ships, Padmé's vessel sustained heavy damage and crashed, although two escape pods were successfully launched. Siri and Kenobi disengaged from the main battle to locate the crash site of the pods.
Recognizing that the battle was unwinnable due to the droids' numerical advantage, the Jedi contacted Solomahal, advising him to send the codebreaker away and prepare for evacuation. However, the General refused, continuing the fight and personally safeguarding the codebreaker. Upon reaching the landing platform, the Jedi were ambushed by Magus in his red-and-black starfighter, who immediately opened fire. Evading his attack, they boarded ARC-170 starfighters: Padmé with Siri, and Taly with Obi-Wan.
On the other side of the battlefield, Anakin realized that despite their initial success and minimal casualties, they could not withstand the Separatist's overwhelming numbers. After receiving news of Padmé's downed ship, he rushed to the platform, hoping to rescue her if she had survived. As the Jedi and others fought Magus, Siri devised a daring plan. She climbed out of her ship, leaving Padmé in control, and used the Force to land on Magus' starfighter, where she used her lightsaber to cut through the cockpit canopy. Magus began flying erratically, which forced Kenobi to fire a low-powered concussion missile in an attempt to stop him. The missile struck the ship, knocking Siri into the cockpit and causing the starfighter to crash.
Magus was ejected from the ship, defeated. Obi-Wan entered the smoking wreckage to find Siri, discovering that she had been shot by Magus and was barely alive. With her final breath, she gave Obi-Wan her warming crystal and declared her love for him. Obi-Wan allowed his anger to consume him, nearly killing Magus, but he regained control of his emotions and arrested Magus as a prisoner of war.
The droids bombed Taly's office and labs, destroying all of his inventions and research, most of which were irreplaceable. Continuing to fight despite the inevitable loss, Solomahal was captured, but not before destroying the codebreaker, preventing the Separatists from obtaining it. He later escaped and received another command. Back at the Jedi Temple, Obi-Wan mourned Siri, wandering the halls unable to sleep, mirroring his master's experience twenty years earlier when Qui-Gon Jinn lost Tahl. However, in his grief, he finally understood the lesson Qui-Gon had tried to impart: that he could endure the loss of the one he loved most. Obi-Wan had finally learned to love openly.
