Battle of Taul

Largely, the Empire had not paid attention to the marshy world of Taul and was unaware that a small Rebel base was located there. The discovery of the Rebel presence by the Empire occurred by happenstance. One of the probe droids that the Empire had deployed to locate the Rebel base on Hoth was sent to Taul. After contact with the droid was lost, the Empire dispatched the Victory-class Star Destroyer, named the Dominator, to investigate the situation.

Upon exiting hyperspace in the morning, local time, the Dominator immediately began deploying troops to the planet's surface. Given the battlefield's environment, the Empire opted not to use heavy walkers; instead, they deployed battle skiffs, attack droids, swamptroopers, and repulsorlift-equipped spacetroopers. The use of repulsorlift-supported battle platforms and soldiers aided the Imperials in navigating the swampy landscape.

The Rebels were better prepared for the environment, and the Imperials experienced a range of technical problems with their spacetroopers and battleskiffs. The battle resulted in a stalemate for a period, with significant casualties on both sides.

Recognizing their likely defeat, the Rebels started an evacuation. The battle then transformed into a frantic pursuit of the Rebel leaders, Krendan, Maidtha Fait, and Warl Thimbus, along with their respective squads, before they could reach their transports.

Ultimately, the Imperials were able to infiltrate the Rebel command center and destroy the shield generator, which then allowed the Dominator to begin a planetary bombardment, reducing the Rebel base to rubble.

The Empire was victorious, but it came at a high price. Furthermore, several Rebel transport vessels were successful in escaping the planet's surface. The Dominator pursued these ships. Before the Star Destroyer left, a team of Imperial soldiers were sent to the planet to locate and eliminate any remaining Rebel survivors. This operation became a skirmish.
