Battle of Yag'Dhul (Imperial era)

In 5 BBY, a significant conflict unfolded above the planet Yag'Dhul. This confrontation pitted the Galactic Empire against a band of Yag'Dhul insurgents. The Empire's forces, spearheaded by the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer named Desolator, executed a surprise attack on the insurgents' base, situated in orbit around Yag'Dhul.

Concurrently, a group of Hutts organized a wagering event. They established odds based on the projected number of fighters from both sides that would be obliterated during the combat. With the intention of profiting from both sides, the Hutts fixed the over/under line at forty-five fighters. Cix Trouvee, the owner of the YT-1300 light freighter known as the Millennium Falcon, decided to participate, hoping to earn enough credits to sustain his extravagant lifestyle and finance crucial repairs for the Millennium Falcon.

A droid-operated starship was strategically positioned between two of Yag'Dhul's inner moons, tasked with broadcasting live footage of the battle to gamblers located at a sports resort on one of the planet's outer moons. However, the live transmission abruptly ceased several minutes into the engagement. The Imperials had detected and destroyed the remote transmitter, and, presuming it was aiding the insurgents, the Desolator abandoned the engagement with the insurgents in order to target the gamblers. As the gamblers scattered—Trouvee among them in the Falcon, the Imperials obliterated the insurgents' space station base orbiting Yag'Dhul, and the remaining insurgent fighters initiated jumps to hyperspace. As Trouvee and his copilot, Waglin, made their escape, they were attacked by the Desolator. The Star Destroyer missed, however, and instead struck two TIE fighters as Trouvee and Waglin successfully fled. The battle concluded with thirty insurgent fighters destroyed compared to twenty-three Imperial fighters destroyed; just two Imperial fighters above the count on which Trouvee had bet.

Now pursued by creditors, Trouvee's desperation for credits grew, leading him to enter the Cloud City Sabacc Tournament, where he ultimately lost the Falcon to Lando Calrissian.
