A Beacon ship refers to a specific class of spacecraft employed by the Chiss Ascendancy.
Description
The Chiss utilized these ships to provide assistance, primarily by transmitting hyperspace navigation data to the initial iterations of Nssis-class Clawcraft. This was also the case for other vessels within the Chiss fleet not equipped with their own navigational computers. For longer voyages, these ships were strategically positioned along travel routes, where they managed smaller vessels and guaranteed they maintained their course. Early versions of the Nssis-class required proximity to a beacon ship or a comparable source of astrographical data to execute hyperspace jumps exceeding one day in duration.
History
In the course of the Yuuzhan Vong War, a beacon ship, accompanied by multiple squadrons of clawcraft, was deployed to aid in the conflict against the Yuuzhan Vong. This deployment continued until the destruction of the planet Ithor.
