Benegryph Goodvalor

Captain Benegryph Goodvalor was a fabricated persona, a character invented by the Galactic Republic as part of a propaganda initiative during the Mandalorian Wars. This character was loosely inspired by the real exploits of Marn Hierogryph. The individual who portrayed Goodvalor in a series of pro-Republic propaganda recordings, broadcast during the war, was Hierogryph's brother. Using a focused transmitter, Goodvalor inundated the Z-band frequency of subspace radio, which the Mandalorians utilized for communication among their ground troops.

In these broadcasts, Goodvalor asserted his role as the captain of a newly constructed, massive Republic warship named the Serroco, imploring the Mandalorians to yield. He depicted enormous Republic fleets assembling for an inevitable counter-offensive, poised to shift the war's momentum back in the Republic's favor. Furthermore, he elaborated extensively on the opulent accommodations of his vessel and the elevated living standards enjoyed by Republic citizens.

His broadcasts typically commenced with the salutation "Attention Mandalorians!" and concluded with a concise motto championing the virtues of the Republic. Examples of such mottos included "The Republic. Here today, here tomorrow" and "The Republic. Real beds. Running water."

Following the capture of Taris, Mandalorian strategists redirected their focus towards the nearby planet of Zongorlu. Goodvalor had foreseen this maneuver and cautioned the Mandalorians against launching an assault. On numerous occasions, he asserted that Zongorlu was a scorching volcanic world perpetually drenched in acid rain; that the indigenous Zongorlu were incensed at the Mandalorians for their destruction of youngling encampments; that the Zongorlu system was so densely populated with Republic warships that traffic congestion was rampant; and that the Serroco was stationed in orbit above a colossal citadel on the planet's surface.

During the assault on Zongorlu, the Mandalorians remained vigilant, yet encountered no opposition whatsoever. They discovered that Captain Goodvalor had been operating from a confined transmission outpost on the surface, having absconded long before their arrival. While some derelict vessels were present in orbit around Zongorlu, no Republic fleet was to be found. Moreover, the Zongorlu species proved to be not the warrior race described by Goodvalor, but rather a sluggish, peaceful plant species barely capable of traversing a meter in a single day.

For a few days, the Z-band remained clear of interference, only for Goodvalor to resurface on the airwaves with his customary greeting, claiming that he had been unexpectedly summoned away from Zongorlu prior to the attack. Goodvalor's message had evolved from advocating unconditional surrender to proposing a peace accord, which included a share of taxation for all Republic worlds under Mandalorian occupation.

During one particular broadcast, an individual identifying themselves as "Commander True," Goodvalor's first officer, conveyed the captain's apologies for his absence. Regardless, the Mandalorians were unimpressed by him. They persisted in utilizing the Z-band despite his broadcasts. Many Mandalorians reacted by deactivating their transceivers, resulting in minor communication disruptions. Mandalorian signals specialist Koblus Sornell acknowledged that the broadcasts were having an impact on some of the newer, less resolute recruits, but maintained that any genuine warrior would simply disregard them.
