Benjo, designated ST-1-2, was a member of the Human species and served as the second-ranking officer in Alpha Squadron, a unit of TIE/LN starfighter pilots. This squadron was assigned to the Imperial-class Star Destroyer known as the Steel Talon. In his role, Benjo operated as the right panelman alongside the squadron's leader, Villian Dance.
As one of a dozen Imperial pilots, Benjo was dispatched on a mission with the objective of intercepting RLH-1. This vessel, a stolen Lambda-class shuttle, was being flown by escaped prisoners attempting to escape from Despayre, a prison planet located within the Horuz system. Despite his eagerness for combat, Benjo adhered to instructions, guiding the squadron into a bracket formation and remaining in reserve while the squadron commander took the lead to initiate communication with the pilot of the hijacked shuttle. Upon the RLH-1 pilot's refusal to surrender the stolen vessel and subsequent engagement with the squadron leader, Benjo observed his commander skillfully outmaneuver and obliterate the shuttle. Expressing his contentment at finally witnessing action beyond training exercises since his assignment to the Steel Talon, Benjo commended his commander on the successful strike.
The character of Benjo was initially introduced to the expanded universe within the pages of the 2007 novel titled Death Star, a collaborative work by authors Michael Reeves and Steve Perry.
