Beris Ford, a low-level criminal, operated in the time of the Galactic Empire's reign. In 9 BBY, the bounty hunting team of Zuckuss and 4-LOM apprehended him. He was held as a prisoner for multiple weeks on their starship, known as the Mist Hunter. In response, Ford's relatives employed Han Solo, along with his co-pilot Chewbacca, to perform a rescue operation. After Zuckuss and 4-LOM's abduction, which was motivated by the bounty offered by Rekias Nodo, Solo, with Chewbacca's help (who had secretly boarded the Mist Hunter inside a large container), successfully liberated both himself and Ford. Subsequently, Ford was put inside the barrel, which was ejected into space equipped with a homing beacon so that his family could locate him.
