The Blazing Chain were wandering marauders operating within the Unknown Regions, scouring the area for vulnerable settlements to raid. These roaming groups of plunderers, empowered by basic Force adepts, constantly sought out new locations to pillage and instill fear in their targets by painting a fiery chain symbol on their starships.

The origins of the Blazing Chain can be traced back to the era of the Galactic Republic. They began as a band of pirates who were reinforced by individuals with a rudimentary understanding of the Force. Following the Great Sith War, the Blazing Chain encountered Sith vessels fleeing into the Unknown Regions. While most of these encounters resulted in conflict, some of the weaker Sith chose to join the Blazing Chain. This led to a significant increase in the number of Force-sensitives within the group. By the time of the Dark Wars, approximately 90% of the Blazing Chain's members possessed Force abilities. Over time, the Blazing Chain amassed sufficient manpower to command a dozen independent fleets, each under the leadership of an Adacap.
In the vicinity of 33 BBY, some members of the Blazing Chain's Blackshackle fleet, commanded by Adacap Zonsoe, succumbed to the dark side of the Force. Zonsoe transformed into a conqueror, defeating the Blazing Chain's Arcblade fleet and igniting a civil war within the group that persisted for nearly five years. Although the Blackshackle fleet was ultimately defeated, the Blazing Chain's fleets were considerably weakened until after the Battle of Yavin. However, they eventually regained their former strength, and by the time the Galactic Alliance fell, the Blazing Chain once again posed a significant threat in the Unknown Regions.
The Blazing Chain did not commit themselves to the light side or the dark side. Instead, they used the Force in any manner that facilitated their raiding activities. While some members did fall to the dark side, the Blazing Chain generally did not consider it a problem unless it threatened the overall stability of the fleet. The symbol cannot be found, although has been described.
