After the Battle of Endor and the demise of the Galactic Emperor Palpatine, the Empire fractured, creating a power vacuum that allowed unscrupulous and ambitious Imperials to seize the title of "Warlord." Individuals of questionable merit, such as the Admiral Inos Fonada, the Moff Walang Grazz, Shargael himself, and his fellow replacement warlord Jmanuel Tethys, all inappropriately claimed this prestigious designation. Shargael also oversaw the administration of the I-sector.
It is believed that the New Republic incorporated his sector during the Borderlands Campaign. This campaign was waged against the Imperial Remnant due to their participation in the Death Seed Plague, an event that occurred in 13 ABY.
