Blockade of Chandrila

During the Galactic Civil War in 4 ABY, the Galactic Empire initiated a blockade around the planet of Chandrila. This operation, initially conceived to quell remaining rebel activity following an anticipated Imperial triumph at Endor (with plans to destroy the planet with the Death Star II), was postponed due to the Emperor's demise at the Battle of Endor. Six months post-Endor, the blockade was eventually carried out by a group of seven Star Destroyers; Grand Vizier Sate Pestage commanded this action to hold Chandrila as leverage, aiming to deter the New Republic's advancement towards Coruscant.

Behind the scenes

The blockade's initial mention occurred in Recon & Report: The Journey to Coruscant. The Essential Guide to Warfare later clarified that the invasion was planned and nearly executed at the same time as the Battle of Endor, along with a similar invasion of Mon Calamari. According to the book's end notes by author Jason Fry, this detail was included to resolve discussions about whether the Empire deployed all or only a fraction of its forces during the battle, suggesting it further illustrated Palpatine's excessive confidence regarding the impending conflict at Endor.
