Bloodflies, a type of insect found frequently on the expansive plains of Lothal—a planet situated within the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy—were known for their swarming behavior. These sizable and fiercely territorial creatures had bodies marked with black and white stripes, shimmering wings, sharp mandibles, and vibrant green eyes; their length ranged from ten to fourteen millimeters. The diet of Bloodflies primarily consisted of blood from mammal species, though they also consumed pollen and nectar. They were often observed congregating near sizable animal groups, like nerfs, due to the abundance of sustenance. Despite their bites being exceptionally agonizing, their loud buzzing during flight provided a warning, making it fairly simple for sentients to evade them. On occasion, Bloodflies transmitted a blood-related disease, referred to as "bloodfly sickness," which induced symptoms like fever, vomiting, debilitating rashes, and a significant reduction in strength and energy in infected sentients. Fortunately, the ailment responded well to treatments involving bacta baths and adequate rest.
