Boneworm

A pack of boneworms under attack Boneworms represented a type of nematode that originated from Necropolis within the Core region. These creatures were a prevalent form of life there; indeed, these beings stood among the scarce remaining native species that managed to endure on that planet.

Boneworms existed as worm-shaped organisms, varying in size from a few centimeters up to exceeding one meter in length. Their physical structure culminated in formidable, lamprey-esque mandibles capable of stripping away flesh and shattering bone. Stiff barbs situated within their oral cavities assisted them in penetrating caskets and osseous structures, in addition to facilitating their ability to tunnel through stony earth. Their coloration generally presented as an off-white hue, and they discharged a mucus-like fluid to facilitate their subterranean digging.

Boneworms inhabited subterranean environments and nourished themselves on the bone marrow derived from recently deceased organisms. Being both sightless and lacking a sense of smell, they depended on detecting ground tremors generated by living beings to perceive animal mortality. Upon the cessation of such movements for a prolonged duration, the boneworms would excavate tunnels towards the surface to consume their meal. In instances where the prospective food source displayed indications of life, the boneworm would retreat back underground. Nevertheless, they were recognized to commence consumption of incapacitated prey.

Boneworms were considered one of the most abundant indigenous lifeforms residing on Necropolis, and were, in actuality, among the limited number of native animal species that persisted. The inhabitants of Necropolis held a disliking towards the boneworms and endeavored to eradicate them. The worms relocated to reside beneath the world's extensive burial grounds, where the customs of Necropolis permitted them to feed undisturbed.
