Ric Olié, holding the rank of Captain, served as the leader of Bravo Flight, a squadron within the Naboo Royal Space Fighter Corps, piloting the N-1 starfighter known as Bravo 1. This particular craft was constructed around 33 BBY, according to the year system. Later, Olié enhanced the craft by adding a customized control panel. In 32 BBY, during the Trade Federation's invasion of Naboo, his homeworld planet, Bravo 1, along with the rest of Bravo Flight, found itself confined within a hangar. After being freed, Olié, flying Bravo 1, led his squadron in an attempt to take out the transmitters located on the Vuutun Palaa, a Lucrehulk-class Droid Control Ship in orbit. This ship was responsible for directing the Droid Army of the invading megacorporation. The Droid Army was deactivated when one of the Bravo Squadron's fighters successfully obliterated the Control Ship, resulting in Naboo's liberation.
Bravo 1 was a Naboo planet defense N-1 starfighter designed by Nubia Star Drives, Incorporated and the Theed Palace Space Vessel Engineering Corps for the Royal Space Fighter Corp, the Royal Naboo Security Forces' dogfighting division. The yellow starfighter was given the traditional chromium finish across the bow and on its underside due to its royal service. The starship was eleven meters long and had three prongs. Ric Olié, a Captain who piloted Bravo 1 as the commander of Bravo Flight, a squadron, equipped the ship with a customized control cluster.
A cockpit with space for a single pilot was located along the central prong, immediately in front of a space for an astromech droid and a pylon for linking to hangar fueling stations. The pilot's left side of the cockpit's exterior featured Futhark writing. The weapons systems were located in front of the cockpit and included two laser cannons that fired green bolts and eight proton torpedoes. The torpedoes were launched from a single launch tube under the craft's bow and released from two internal dispensers. Each of Bravo 1's outer prongs, which served as wings, had a 221 sublight engine. It used a Monarc C-4 hyperdrive for faster-than-light travel. Additionally, Bravo 1 featured a sophisticated autopilot, life support, deflector shields, and communication systems.
King Ars Veruna of Naboo collaborated with Nubia Star Drives, Incorporated, and the Theed Palace Space Vessel Engineering Corps to develop the N-1 starfighter from his coronation onward. Veruna had a few of the starfighters built by the time he abdicated in 33 BBY. One of the first to be produced, Bravo 1, was given to Bravo Flight, a new squadron made up entirely of N-1s. Bravo Leader, Ric Olié, led the squadron and piloted Bravo 1 under that call sign. It saw combat against a group of pirates on the planet Chommell Minor. Olié took his new ship and the rest of Bravo Squadron on strafing runs to destroy asteroids in order to test them. Olié eventually made changes to the craft's control settings to suit his tastes.

In 32 BBY, the Trade Federation blockaded and invaded Naboo in response to increased taxation by the Galactic Republic. When the Federation took control of Theed Hangar in the planetary capital of Theed, Bravo 1, along with other Bravo starfighters and their pilots, was present. Queen Padmé Amidala, Veruna's successor as the Monarch of Naboo, was freed from Federation custody after a month of unsuccessful negotiations by Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, two Jedi. The trio and Amidala's security detail liberated Theed Hangar so they could use her personal craft to travel to Coruscant, the galactic capital, where she could ask the Galactic Republic's Senate for help. Olié and the other pilots left the hangar in their Queen's ship, and the Federation quickly regained control of the building, along with Bravo 1 and the other starfighters.
The Queen chose to liberate her homeworld by force after her efforts in the Senate were hampered by bureaucratic practices; she organized a task force to storm her palace. Her first action was to retake the hangar so Bravo Squadron could get their ships and destroy the Vuutun Palaa, a Lucrehulk-class Droid Control Ship in orbit that was in charge of the Trade Federation Droid Army forces stationed on Naboo. With his astromech droid, R2-A6, Olié boarded Bravo 1, and his Squadron took off. Olié transmitted the coordinates of the space battle to every N-1 starfighter in the area as they approached the Control Ship so that any available ships could assist them. Bravo 1 and Bravo Squadron engaged in combat with enemy Vulture droids before dividing into two groups upon Olié's command: one to continue fending off the droids and another to attack the Control Ship's transmitters. Bravo 1 participated in a strafing run, but its laser cannons were unable to break through the Control Ship's deflector shields.
Meanwhile, Bravo Fighter, a Bravo Squadron N-1 from the hangar that was not flown into battle, received the coordinates from Bravo 1, and its autopilot took it there. After some time, Vulture droids shot down the fighter, which crashed inside the Control Ship. Olié ordered his pilots to stay away from the Control Ship and give Bravo Fighter time to escape after it was brought to his attention. Anakin Skywalker, the pilot of Bravo Fighter, who was a boy, fired proton torpedoes into the ship's main reactor, destroying it. The destruction of the Control Ship rendered all of the Trade Federation droids on the surface inactive, giving Amidala enough power to force the Federation to sign a treaty and free the planet. Olié continued to fly with Bravo Squadron for several years after that.
While serving with Bravo Squadron, Ric Olié flew Bravo 1. He was born on Naboo and was regarded as the best pilot there at the time of the Trade Federation's invasion. Olié thought his R2-series astromech droid, R2-A6, was a good luck charm, so he made sure to fly with it when piloting Bravo 1.
Bravo 1 made its debut in 1999 with the release of both the novelization of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace and the film itself. A December 2001 expansion to the Star Wars Customizable Card Game, Theed Palace Limited, had a card called "Bravo 1" that recognized the ship as such. The Darth Plagueis novel by James Luceno from 2012 was the ship's first appearance outside of the card and other material that expanded upon Episode I.
