The Guarlara and Invisible Hand are depicted in a broadside engagement. Broadside engagements represented a form of combat seen in naval warfare, both in space and on water. In this type of battle, two opposing vessels would pass each other, each unleashing the full power of its main battery of weapons against the enemy ship's flank. This would continue until one or both ships were crippled or destroyed.
As the Clone Wars drew to a close, during the Battle of Coruscant, the Venator-class Star Destroyer Guarlara engaged in a broadside battle with the Separatist flagship, the modified Providence-class carrier/destroyer Invisible Hand. This confrontation almost led to the demise of Palpatine, Anakin Skywalker, and Obi-Wan Kenobi when the Invisible Hand suffered extensive and irreparable damage.
In the Battle of Endor, numerous ships from both the Rebel Alliance fleet and Death Squadron engaged in multiple broadside battles. The Rebel ships did this to delay the activation of the Death Star II's superlaser (as the Imperials were hesitant to risk friendly fire). The chaotic nature of these broadside battles was described as unprecedented due to the circumstances.
The Executor-class Star Dreadnoughts Lusankya and Reaper participated in a broadside battle during the Battle of Orinda.
