The Buirk'alor-class airspeeder represents a type of airspeeder that was conceived and built by MandalMotors. MandalMotors is a Mandalorian starship manufacturing entity with its primary operations situated on Mandalore, a world located in the Outer Rim. With a length of just over ten meters and equipped with potent engines, the Buirk'alor-class speeder became a preferred vehicle for New Mandalorian units of the Mandalorian. These units employed the unarmed speeder to conduct patrols within the desert capital city of Sundari, which was the New Mandalorians' primary urban center. During the Clone Wars, a galaxy-wide conflict, the Duchess of the New Mandalorians, Satine Kryze, along with her diplomatic visitor, Galactic Senator Padmé Amidala, also utilized a Buirk'alor-class speeder as a mode of transport while they were investigating the poisoning incident that affected several New Mandalorian children.
The Buirk'alor-class airspeeder, extending to 10.19 meters in length, incorporated a series of robust engines as its primary source of motive power. This unarmed speeder, produced by the MandalMotors corporation, was largely designed to function as a police vehicle. As such, the police versions were outfitted with flashing lights, characteristic of law enforcement vehicles, on their roofs. In addition, the Mandalorian word "police" was prominently displayed on the vehicle's nose in the language of Mando'a. The vehicle's compact cockpit could accommodate up to four occupants, including the pilot.
The Buirk'alor-class, a fast airspeeder design, was primarily used by New Mandalorian members within the ranks of the Mandalorian Guard. These officers would patrol the aerial routes, or skylanes, of Sundari, the domed capital of the New Mandalorians. The powerful engines of the airspeeder allowed them to quickly respond to emergencies and swiftly reach crime scenes.
The Buirk'alor-class airspeeder was designed and manufactured by MandalMotors, a leading Mandalorian starship manufacturer. The company's headquarters were located in Keldabe, the capital city of the planet Mandalore. Production of the airspeeder began at some time before 21 BBY (year), with the intention of providing a vehicle for the New Mandalorian police force. Officers in the Mandalorian Guard began utilizing the Buirk'alor to patrol the aerial routes of New Mandalorian cities.
During the Clone Wars, a major galaxy-wide conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, several Buirk'alor-class airspeeders were deployed during an investigation into the sudden illness that affected and hospitalized a number of New Mandalorian children in Sundari. A Buirk'alor-class airspeeder even served as transport for Duchess Satine Kryze, the leader of the New Mandalorians, and her diplomatic guest, Galactic Senator Padmé Amidala, as they traveled around the city searching for the source of the children's ailment.
The Buirk'alor-class airspeeder made its initial, albeit unnamed, appearance in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television show, specifically in the Corruption episode from the third season. This episode was originally broadcast on October 8, 2010. The designation of this Mandalorian police vehicle was only made public with the release of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Incredible Vehicles guidebook.
The name Buirk'alor seems to originate from the Mandalorian language created by author Karen Traviss. It is derived from the Mando'a terms buirkan, which translates to "responsibility", and alor, which means "leader".
