Cathar (location)

Cathar, a world teeming with diverse ecological systems and gigantic predatory insects, functioned as the original homeworld for the Cathar species.

Description

The Cathar landscape.

The indigenous Cathar resided within enormous city-trees, while expansive regions of the planet suffered devastation caused by the kiltik beetles, which rendered the land barren.

The Giant horned hopper species frequently fell victim to the Cathar during ritualistic blood hunts.

History

During the Battle of Cathar, the Mandalorians seized control of the planet, resulting in the enslavement and near annihilation of the Cathar species. The remaining few were compelled to escape off-world in order to ensure their survival. Following the conclusion of the Mandalorian Wars, the Cathar people initiated the process of repopulating their world, and by the time of the Galactic Civil War, it had completely recovered from the devastation inflicted by the Mandalorians. Before its destruction, the planet did not belong to the Galactic Republic.

During the Yuuzhan Vong War, Cathar was conquered by the Yuuzhan Vong invaders. They overwhelmed the planet before their attack on Coruscant in 27 ABY.

Behind the scenes

The 1996 PC game titled Star Wars: Rebellion erroneously places this planet within the Abrion sector. According to The Essential Atlas, the planet is actually situated in the Quelii sector of the Outer Rim Territories at coordinates N-6.

In The Essential Atlas, Cathar is also mistakenly plotted at N-7 on the map of the Expansion Region. Jason Fry has confirmed this to be an error.
