Previously a member of the Imperial Army, Cecius functioned as a bridge officer on the Super Star Destroyer Executor, which served as the personal flagship of Darth Vader. Specializing in boarding actions and the capture of enemy starships, Cecius was tasked with seizing Luke Skywalker and the crew of the Rebel freighter Millennium Falcon as they made their escape from Imperial forces on Cloud City in 3 ABY. However, his mission was thwarted when the Rebel vessel unexpectedly jumped into hyperspace.
During the Galactic Civil War, Cecius held the rank of officer within the Imperial Navy. A former member of the Imperial Army and a native of the planet Vogel 7, Cecius achieved the rank of lieutenant by 3 ABY and was stationed on the Executor, a Super Star Destroyer that served as the personal flagship for the Dark Lord Darth Vader. There, he served as a bridge officer. Cecius was under the command of Admiral Firmus Piett.
His specific responsibilities on the Executor involved boarding strategies and the capture of opposing starships. In 3 ABY, when the Executor aimed to intercept Luke Skywalker and the crew of the Rebel Alliance freighter, the Millennium Falcon, as they fled Bespin's Cloud City during its Imperial occupation, Cecius was present on the Super Star Destroyer's bridge. Following Vader's directive to Piett to prepare the Executor's boarding party with weaponry set to stun for the capture of the Millennium Falcon's crew, Cecius was tasked with carrying out the Dark Lord's orders. However, before Cecius's boarding team could seize the fleeing Rebel ship, the freighter made its escape into hyperspace.
Cecius was a Human who specialized in boarding operations and taking control of enemy ships. His duties during his time aboard Darth Vader's flagship were a testament to his days in the Imperial infantry. By the time of his service on the Executor in 3 ABY, Cecius had not had a date in years. He possessed brown hair and a light complexion.
While serving on the Executor's bridge in 3 ABY, Lieutenant Cecius wore the standard Imperial officer's uniform.
Cecius made his initial appearance in the film Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. His brief appearance and single spoken line are unique to the film and not found in its novelization. Due to the actor's positioning during his scene, he is often partially obscured unless the film is viewed in widescreen format.
The character of Cecius was first identified by name and given a brief backstory on the "Lieutenant Cecius" card within the Cloud City Limited expansion set of the Star Wars Customizable Card Game in November 1997.
