Celebration Japan, a fan-oriented gathering, occurred at the Makuhari-Messe Convention Center close to Tokyo. It spanned from July 19 to July 21 in 2008. This marked the first time a Celebration event was hosted in Japan. The aim was to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the original Star Wars film, which premiered in Japan on June 24, 1978. Lucasfilm Ltd. and the Lewis Daniel Group were responsible for managing the convention.
Stephen J. Sansweet made the announcement of Celebration Japan on February 23, 2008, at Wonder-Con. Later that same day, an official announcement concerning Celebration Japan was published on StarWars.com.
The program of events featured discussions with Dave Filoni regarding the then-forthcoming movie and TV series, along with screenings of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
