Century flower

Century flowers represented an uncommon vegetal species that originated from a planet located on the opposite side of the galaxy from Thustra. King Alaric cultivated these unique specimens within his garden on Thustra for a full century. These exceptionally fragile flowers required meticulous protection from invasive weeds. Alaric employed his horticultural practices as an illustrative analogy to convey to Yoda the reasons underpinning his conviction that Thustra ought to separate itself from the Republic amidst the Clone Wars.

Behind the scenes

The hundred-year flower belonging to King Alaric made its debut in the 2004 comic book Jedi: Yoda. This comic constituted the fifth and concluding installment within the Star Wars: Jedi series of one-shot comics, bearing the writing of Jeremy Barlow and the artistic contributions of HOON. Within HOON's earlier assemblage of conceptual artwork, the flower was labeled as a "Sephiorchid," possibly suggesting that it could be a variation of orchid.
