A distinctive version of the Defense Fleet uniform was the long tunic worn by Chiss officers. This tunic, in contrast to the conventional Defense Fleet uniform, featured a looser cut, a more ornate design, and reduced practicality, bearing resemblance to the robes of state. Its primary color was black, accented by patches on the sleeves and upper shoulders that indicated the wearer's affiliation with one of the Ruling Families.
During 22 ABY, Prard'ras'kleoni, a Chiss General (core name "Drask") within the Chiss Defense Fleet, was observed wearing a long, black tunic adorned with dusky red swatches on the sleeves and upper shoulders. In that same year, Captain Brast'alshi'barku (core name "Talshib") of the Chiss sported a comparable attire to General Drask, but distinguished by green patches.
The Chiss officer's long tunic made its initial appearance in Survivor's Quest, a Star Wars novel penned by Timothy Zahn and released in 2004.
