This vessel took its name from a more well-known predecessor that met its end on Dathomir many centuries prior. The Chu'unthor served as a learning environment for pupils such as Callista Ming and Geith. Furthermore, Jedi Master Aqinos also imparted his knowledge on the Chu'unthor.
Luke Skywalker eventually located the Chu'unthor and retrieved historical data, including an account detailing the experiences of Aurra Sing.
The novel Darksaber initially mentioned the second Chu'unthor. While sharing similarities with the vessel described in The Courtship of Princess Leia, this iteration of the Chu'unthor was stated to be operational well after the events of Courtship, where the original was established to have crashed. The New Essential Guide to Characters clarified this discrepancy by confirming that this was a second ship, named in tribute to the original Chu'unthor.
