The chuk'a originated from the Yuuzhan Vong galaxy and were aquatic beings. Their shells were utilized in the creation of chuk'a caps.
These sizable creatures, akin to mollusk-like worms, underwent bioengineering to function as waste processors. Their method involved burrowing through diverse substances, including metal and stone, facilitated by a cap equipped with numerous pincers. The chuk'a navigated through rock and other materials, grinding up everything in its path, subsequently consuming it. The digested matter was then excreted as a more recycled form, employed in the construction of buildings and structures.
The movement of the chuk'a frequently resulted in the creation of tunnels, which were used as passageways linking various subterranean chambers. When their services were not required, they were put into a deep sleep, requiring intricate stimulations to reawaken. Disturbing a sleeping chuk'a presented a potentially hazardous scenario, as it was extremely dangerous to rouse them.
Several of these creatures were unleashed on Coruscant to assist their masters in their endeavor to reshape the ecumenopolis into a replica of their ancient homeworld, Yuuzhan'tar. This involved the dismantling of the lowest levels of metallic structures beneath the planet's surface.
