Cirrifog is the name given to the distinctive microcrystals that existed within the atmosphere of Monor II. These crystals, dense and pearlescent in appearance, rendered the air of the world hazardous to the respiratory systems of most sentients; a single cubic meter of the atmosphere contained billions of these crystals. The Sunesi, being native inhabitants of Monor II, were naturally adapted to this environment, to the point where the absence of cirrifog would prove fatal to young Sunesi. These juveniles, during their transformation into adults, utilized the crystals to construct a protective cocoon.
Following Eujustus Kline's discovery of cirrifog, the Galactic Empire promptly initiated mining operations to extract the mineral. Agapos the Ninth, concerned about the impact of cirrifog depletion on the young Sunesi population, voiced his opposition to the Empire's activities, which ultimately led to his death sentence.
