The Coruscant mercenaries, comprised of Human, Ishi Tib, Nikto, and Rodian killers, operated on the world of Coruscant, the Galactic Republic's capital, in the ten years prior to the Clone Wars.
Around 32 BBY, the Coruscant mercenaries, active in Galactic City, were employed by the Trade Federation to kidnap Padmé Amidala, the Queen of Naboo at the time of the organization's Naboo invasion of her home planet. The assassins were also tasked with eliminating her protectors, two Jedi Knights from the Jedi Order, in addition to capturing the Queen.
The mercenaries carefully planned their operation, dividing into two groups. The first team launched an ambush against Queen Amidala and her security chief, Quarsh Panaka, who were scheduled to meet with Senator Palpatine at the Senate Building. Despite a brief capture and attacks from hover cannons, Captain Panaka successfully defended the queen. He freed her from her temporary confinement in the undercity and prepared to return to the surface with her. However, the Sun Guard boss of the mercenaries, donned in black hooded warrior attire and wielding a vibro-ax, confronted the queen just before they were about to leave the Underworld. Captain Panaka engaged this final assassin in combat, ultimately killing him with his R-65 heavy blaster.
Simultaneously, a second mercenary team attacked Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Jedi apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi as they escorted Anakin Skywalker to the Jedi Temple. The Jedi defended themselves, killing all of their attackers, and were then escorted to the Temple by Master of the Order Mace Windu.
The mercenaries employed a range of deadly tactics, including both hand-to-hand and ranged combat with pistols. Some also used thermal detonators. Most of the assassins met their end at the hands of the Jedi's lightsabers or Captain Panaka's various blasters.
