Danuta

Danuta, situated within the Colavas system, was a lackluster, unproductive world of brown hues, primarily inhabited by a sparse population of miners and struggling agriculturalists. Trid served as the planet's unofficial capital city.

Description

Observed from space, Danuta presented the appearance of being draped in a brown covering; the majority of its surface consisted of arid wastelands characterized by hills and ravines.

The capital city, Trid, was a rudimentary settlement featuring squat structures arranged in a grid-like pattern; a two-lane road extended from Trid towards certain agricultural areas, where farmers cultivated circular patches of the infertile terrain.

Beyond the confines of the town existed an imperial military post, which was later enlarged to become an Imperial Military Reservation, alongside a collection of significantly taller buildings that formed the Danuta research facility. Within the boundaries of the Reservation, certain superlaser experiments aimed at boring into the planet's crust were carried out, culminating in a dark "lake" composed of liquefied, and subsequently solidified, surface material.

History

During the final years of the Old Republic, the dominant inhabitants were the Hutts, however, the Galactic Empire subsequently transformed it into a dependent territory of the Brodsport Mining Corporation. Danuta possessed limited distinction, except for its role as a transit point along one of the numerous hyperspace routes leading towards Kessel.

The Imperial garrison located on the edge of Trid was augmented into a comprehensive military installation, housing a sprawling yet secret research facility frequented by representatives of the Imperial Security Bureau and scientific personnel. A fragmented set of blueprints pertaining to the first Death Star was concealed there by Atour Riten.

Kyle Katarn infiltrates the research facility.

Launching an assault from a clandestine base, the Rebel Alliance mounted an attack on the Imperial installation utilizing starships and ground troops, while mercenary Kyle Katarn would proceed with his mission to go to the location where the schematics were hidden.

The research facility subsequently fell into disuse, but within a relatively short period, Danuta underwent a period of economic prosperity, profiting from the increasing prominence of its neighboring world, Bimmisaari. Upon the Bimms becoming part of the New Republic, Danuta emulated their actions. It was only at that point that the Danutans eventually discovered that the infamous Death Star had been developed in close proximity to their planet.

Behind the scenes

Danuta is referenced in the alternate conclusion of Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II as the origin of a new Rebellion directed against the Empire, which was then under the control of Kyle Katarn.
