Trid

Trid served as a prominent urban center located on the planetary surface of Danuta.

Description

The urban layout featured a grid-like design, a concept of the Brodsport engineers. Because most people only stayed while working, it did not have a large number of permanent residents. By the time of 1 BBY, what had been an Imperial garrison on Trid's periphery had transformed into a comprehensive military installation, housing a vast research complex.

Additionally, the city boasted a spaceport situated on its eastern edge, a B'omarr Order Temple, an educational institution, a power generation plant utilizing nuclear fusion, as well as various residential dwellings and modest commercial enterprises. Among these were the Brodsport Mining Corporation and the Blue Moon cantina. A town square, complete with a water fountain filled with refuse, was also present. Nearby, a cafe offered plastic tables and was staffed by a young hostess.

The western sector of the city included a compact residential zone designated for scientists and their families, exhibiting a higher standard of living and cleanliness. This area was strategically positioned between the main urban area and a security perimeter leading to the Research Complex. A two-lane road extended outwards towards agricultural homesteads, eventually giving way to the planet's rugged terrain of hills and canyons.

Culture

Trid was characterized as a sluggish and somewhat unrefined city. Its population was composed of long-term colonists engaged in mining and farming, the ubiquitous stormtrooper presence in paired patrols, temporary workers employed by Brodsport, as well as spacers, smugglers, and diverse aliens. Occasionally, individuals of a scholarly inclination, typically scientists affiliated with the Research Complex, could also be observed. Tractor-wagon vehicles were a common sight on the city's roads.

The architecture of Trid was typical of Imperial-era prefabricated settlements, while the culture was colonial, reflective of the rimworlds. Ground-level windows were fortified with iron bars, and second-story balconies were adorned with hanging planters.

History

In the period leading up to the Battle of Yavin, the Imperial garrison located outside Trid was significantly upgraded to a fully operational military base, which also served as the location of a large, yet secret research facility. This facility attracted visits from the Imperial Security Bureau and prominent scientists, including Bevel Lemelisk.

These unusual visits aroused the suspicions of a rebel sympathizer, who subsequently alerted the Alliance. Reconnaissance imagery of Trid indicated a high population density, making a commando raid to obtain the schematics for Operation Skyhook likely to result in significant collateral damage. Despite her misgivings, Mon Mothma authorized an assault, dispatching Kyle Katarn, a former Imperial officer who had defected, on what appeared to be a perilous mission.

Katarn, operating as a mercenary, was tasked with breaching the Imperial station's limited defenses. During his mission, he encountered his former acquaintance, Meck Odom, now serving as an Imperial officer. Katarn successfully persuaded Odom to join his cause. Despite his skills and heightened state of alertness, Katarn occasionally relied on luck to survive. In the heat of combat, he began to instinctively tap into the Force, sensing events before they occurred, a capability he had yet to fully comprehend. Despite the relatively weak resistance, the facility remained heavily secured with various security measures.

The Rebel Alliance launched an attack on the Imperial facility from a concealed location, deploying starships and ground troops while Katarn continued his mission to locate the Death Star plans.

Behind the scenes

The research facility featured in the initial level of the game Star Wars: Dark Forces was modeled after the city of Trid. However, the name "Trid" was not officially established until the release of Dark Forces: Soldier for the Empire.
