The official Star Wars database, known as the Databank, was once hosted on StarWars.com and represented the sole publicly available source of its kind. Its entries were arranged in alphabetical order within different categories. Each entry, when applicable, featured three distinct sections: the first detailed elements as they appeared in the films (if present), the second delved into supplementary information from the Expanded Universe, and the third provided a behind-the-scenes perspective.
Pablo Hidalgo authored the majority of the entries. Through the What's The Story? segment of Hyperspace, fans had the opportunity to contribute Databank entries focusing on the more obscure characters, vehicles, species, and locations within the saga.
With the redesign of the official Star Wars website on September 13, 2011, the Databank was superseded by the Encyclopedia feature, leading to the removal of all original Databank content after the site's revamp.
