David Benioff, a highly regarded American screenwriter and television producer who has received an Emmy Award, is most famous for his work alongside D.B. Weiss in creating the critically acclaimed television show Game of Thrones. Benioff and Weiss had plans to develop a Star Wars film series that was scheduled to begin in 2022.
The series would have been co-written and co-produced by the pair, existing independently from the main Skywalker saga of films. Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, stated that Benioff and Weiss were collaborating with writer-director Rian Johnson, the creator of a separate upcoming Star Wars trilogy. However, on October 28, 2019, Benioff and Weiss left the project because of scheduling conflicts with Netflix, Inc..
