The Deep Core Security Zone represented a region within the Deep Core of the galaxy, functioning under the authority of the Galactic Empire. Due to its strategic importance, entry into this zone was regulated by the 15th Deep Core Reserve Fleet, which operated from its base near Empress Teta. Several Interdictor class ships were designed specifically for use within the zone; however, Moff Wilhuff Tarkin diverted these ships to pursue his stolen corvette, known as the Carrion Spike. Kren Blista-Vanee, the Imperial Advisor, made Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine aware of Tarkin's intentions regarding the use of these cruisers. One of the select individuals authorized to navigate through this zone was Dana Galvason, a captain piloting the tramp freighter Bakuran Blade and a secret supporter of the Rebel Alliance.
