Right before the pivotal Battle of Yavin, Deyd Llnewe served as an Imperial captain. He held command of the Carrack-class cruiser known as the Vigilant.
During his days at the Imperial Academy, he envisioned a grand future. But fate led him to an unglamorous assignment. The shining ambitions of his younger self faded, replaced by the tough truth of aging while performing trivial tasks for his superiors, which left Deyd feeling deeply dissatisfied.
Near the time of the Battle of Yavin, he came across a blockade runner named Jaina's Light, with Han Solo at the helm. Though suspicious of Solo, Llnewe found nothing out of order on the ship, and so he allowed him to proceed. Yet, two more meetings with the smuggler as he journeyed to deliver goods to farmers on Nadiem amplified his suspicion, much to the annoyance of his second officer, Lieutenant Raprice.
Driven to frustration, the captain understood that his vessel had not encountered Han on his journey to retrieve his cargo. The Corellian wasn't smuggling illegal goods; he was smuggling the starships themselves. Furious, Llnewe commanded his gunners to engage, but Solo managed to jump to hyperspace, satisfied that his accomplishment would become a legendary tale among smugglers.
