The Diagnostic Systems Diverter from UniTech, more commonly referred to as the "Patch,"" functioned as a compact tool. Its purpose was to deceive a computer or network, causing it to disregard interruptions within its operational structure. This was accomplished by simulating signals originating from the impaired subsystems, thereby presenting a fully operational unit to the central system. The Patch was composed of a primary module and eight subsidiary modules, each strategically positioned at connection points within the compromised subsystem.

During urgent repairs, Imperial technicians legitimately employed the Patch to prevent system-wide disruptions resulting from the system's attempts to manage the failure. Conversely, members of the Rebel Alliance also utilized it for clandestine operations, concealing espionage activities and facilitating the unauthorized acquisition of confidential documentation. Gunman, an operative within Churhee's Riflemen, deployed the Patch in a reverse manner: by deceiving a functioning system into perceiving a breach, he could initiate false alerts, disable lighting systems, and orchestrate other distractions.

While typically reserved for governmental acquisitions, certain Patch units were accessible through channels like Gundark's Gear Datalog on the Invisible Market, priced at 5,200 credits.
