The Dianoga served as a customized assault ship utilized by the space pirate Gir Kybo Ren-Cha. This occurred a number of years prior to the Battle of Yavin.
The specific manufacturer and design of the Dianoga remain unidentified; however, it was equipped with a minimum of two laser cannons. It should not be mistaken for the Dianoga starfighter. Captain Kybo's ship seemed to include a robust battering ram. This ram was able to strike a light freighter at maximum speed. Furthermore, it featured a compact docking tube. This tube could breach the hull located on the lower section of a targeted vessel. This breach enabled the docking and subsequent seizure of the target, along with all of its cargo.
Captain Kybo, when engaging in combat, consistently had a complement of pilfered and altered TIE/ln starfighters, flown by his accomplices. On one occasion, he employed the Dianoga to assault a freighter being flown by a young woman by the name of Jessica Meade.
