The Dissection droid functioned as a droid working for the extra-galactic Abominor known by the name of the Great Heep.
Following his caution to R2-D2 regarding the approaching threat should he stay within the Great Heep's Droid harem, C-3PO was seized by the Heep and designated for disassembly by a dissection droid. Inside the disassembly chamber, C-3PO was fastened onto a table while the dissection droid readied its tools to take apart the protocol droid.
However, prior to the droid executing its initial incision, C-3PO managed to liberate an arm and activate a lever situated on the table's side. The table elevated C-3PO towards the ceiling, inclined to one direction, and released him onto a conveyor belt laden with metal debris destined for the smelter.
