Dodz was a small world located within the Outer Rim territories, classified as a planet of minor significance.
Despite its desolate and infertile landscape, Dodz gained galactic recognition for the extraordinary crystals that were extracted from its geological layers. Its diminutive size made it a frequent target of mockery, even among droids.
During the period of the Galactic War, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire, this undersized planet was supposedly famous for its crystal-filled caves.
Circa 3637 BBY, a person aligned with one of the two warring factions dispatched an associate to Dodz with the intention of collecting crystals.
Miners established a colony on the planet, arriving to mine its valuable crystals. To ensure their safety, they deployed Ranger X-One defense robots. Governance of the planet was managed by the Citizen's Council of Dodz, although the inhabitants periodically resisted tyrannical rulers.
During the era of the Galactic Empire, the planet once more fell under the control of an oppressive authority figure. Kugg declared himself Governor, employing the Destroyer, a battle droid, as his personal enforcer. Under Kugg's dominion, the Destroyer routinely demolished the planet's buildings and infrastructure, rendering it unattractive and undesirable to the wider galaxy. He imposed exorbitant taxes on the population and killed those who refused to comply. Those who managed to survive the attacks were forced to flee.
One such victim was the Crystal Merchant Lott Kemp. Shortly before his escape from the Destroyer, the Intergalactic Droid Agency assigned R2-D2 and C-3PO to him. The two droids, marooned on the planet without their master, allied with Jost Ellon, a young native of Dodz, and together they overthrew Kugg using an antiquated Ranger X-1.
The main structure of the planet's rescuer, the Ranger X-1, was left stationed on a hill as a monument to when the war droid was victorious over the Destroyer during battle, while Kugg was sent to an intergalactic court.
