Drik, a male Chev and a slave, possessed the rare ability to use the Force.
The notorious Chevin slaver, Phylus Mon, had a habit of picking out Force-sensitive slaves from the Chevs he enslaved. He would then "liberate" them into his service. While he paid them and claimed they were free, any attempt to leave Phylus Mon's employment would result in their death. Drik was one such Chev slave, employed as a security guard for Phylus Mon. His role was to use his Force abilities to enhance the combat skills of the other guards, or to conjure illusions of massive predators to frighten Phylus Mon's adversaries. Drik himself, however, was not expected to engage in physical combat.
In the year 20 BBY, Drik was one of three Chevs, alongside Niv and Tosh, who served as Phylus Mon's throne guard. All three harbored deep resentment towards Phylus Mon. Like all of Phylus Mon's slaves, they had an implanted explosive device that would instantly kill them if Phylus Mon were to die. The Chevs were positioned at their master's feet, allowing them to use the Force to influence all of the bodyguards, which included a group of Coruscani ogres and a concealed Wampa. The room itself was spacious enough to accommodate an illusory rancor attack.
Phylus Mon's mobile headquarters was situated in the Cularin system, and his throne room came under attack from a local resistance group who opposed his schemes. Phylus Mon issued a threat to the group, but his words were actually a coded signal for the Chevs to begin using the Force to augment the guards' abilities.
