The Coruscant duel transpired in 30 BBY, situated in the underworld area near the Temple District. This event stemmed from a Jedi mission focused on tracking down the assassin and notorious Jedi-killer, Aurra Sing. Jedi Master Peerce was selected to spearhead this task, accompanied by Jedi Knight J'Mikel and his Padawan, Xiaan Amersu. The team uncovered Sing's prior slaying of several Republic Peace Officers which led them to divide their forces to broaden their search. Peerce met his demise first, followed shortly by J'Mikel. However, Sing chose to let Amersu live, foretelling a future rematch between them.
This deadly encounter deeply troubled the Jedi High Council, prompting them to allocate additional resources to ensure Sing's capture and subsequent justice. Shortly thereafter, the Council dispatched a specialized task force to locate her.
The infamous assassin, Aurra Sing, gained notoriety for assassinating Jedi at various points in their careers, which at one point included Mana Veridi on Kwannot. Her actions caused concern among the Jedi High Council, leading to their decision to apprehend Sing. Jedi Master Peerce received the assignment to hunt Sing down on Coruscant itself. Accompanying Peerce on this mission were Jedi Knight J'Mikel and his Padawan, Xiaan Amersu.
The Jedi trio initiated their search for the assassin within the underworld, in proximity to the Temple District. After a period of searching, they came across the bodies of a murdered group of Republic Peace Officers. This discovery led the Jedi Master to propose splitting up to expand the search area. Unbeknownst to the Jedi, Sing remained in the vicinity, stalking them. She ambushed Peerce (after he discovered a Duro officer at a separate location) and then used cables to suspend him for the other Jedi to witness before she engaged and impaled J'Mikel, subsequently taking his lightsaber.
However, Sing chose to spare Amersu, promising a future encounter and battle when Amersu's skills had further matured.
Xiaan Amersu was placed under the care of Jedi physicians to recover from the trauma she experienced. Meanwhile, the High Council resolved to assemble a team of Jedi to pursue Sing and bring her to justice.
