The Elysium, located on Alderaan, functioned for thousands of years as the emblematic heart of Alderaanian politics. Before the establishment of [Aldera](/article/aldera/legends] as the capital city, the noble houses convened at the Elysium to choose and coronate their initial king. Throughout the planet's history, all succession disagreements were settled amicably within the Elysium's stone confines. Moreover, it acted as the location where the houses' most prized possessions were deposited into its vaults, signifying mutual confidence.
Following the murder of Gaul Panteer and the unfortunate passing of the queen, who perished in a perplexing transport accident, the Alderaanian parliament gathered at the Elysium to select their next ruler. It was during this assembly that the House of Thul attempted to reclaim their position on the planet following a prolonged exile. This attempt incited conflict and immediate accusations, resulting in the Elysium becoming a desolate and neglected representation of Alderaan's bygone unity during the Cold War. Its venerable chambers had subsequently been damaged by far-off explosions, and its splendor was observed to be rapidly diminishing.
