Empire 29

Empire #29: In the Shadows of Their Fathers, Part 1 represents the twenty-ninth installment within the Star Wars: Empire comic book saga. Dark Horse Comics released it to the public on February 23, 2005.

Synopsis by the Publisher

As the valuable ore deposits become depleted and the mines on Jabiim are exhausted, the Empire's dedication to the planet diminishes. Nevertheless, Emperor Palpatine refuses to permit the Jabiimi insurgents to drive the remaining stormtroopers from the world by force. The more fiercely they resist, the more oppressive the Imperial control becomes.

The Rebel Alliance offers assistance, intending to persuade the fiercely autonomous Jabiimi people to align with their galactic movement. However, the Rebel hero, Luke Skywalker, is unaware that he is following a path previously trod by his father, a path that is now tarnished—and that bearing the surname "Skywalker" could result in his execution by those he seeks to aid!

Narrative Synopsis

Many years following the Clone Wars, Emperor Palpatine remains unwilling to pull the last of his soldiers out of Jabiim, despite the persistent attacks from the native Jabiimite rebels. The Galactic Empire's excessive mining has caused Jabiim's ore reserves to diminish. The Rebel Alliance sends a team, led by Luke Skywalker, to aid the Jabiimi. However, upon arriving on the planet, he understands that he has entered his father's past actions. As a Jedi Knight, Anakin Skywalker had been disloyal to the Jabiimi Loyalists, and the inhabitants have neither forgotten nor forgiven this betrayal.
