Tip-yip
Endorian chickens, referred to as "tip-yip" in the Ewokese language, were a type of bird species native to the forests of Endor. The Ewoks raised these domesticated creatures primarily as a source of food, valuing their meat for its delicious taste.
Anatomy
These chickens were a non-sentient bird species from Endor, a verdant moon orbiting the planet Tana. Their anatomy included two slender legs, each ending in three clawed toes and a spur-like appendage on the rear of the foot. They also featured fluffy crests of feathers, abbreviated wings, and a plumed tail.
The chickens in culture
These chickens were raised by the Ewoks, the small, intelligent aliens of Endor, for their meat. This meat gained offworld renown for its exquisite flavor, as attested by Dexter Jettster, the Besalisk chef. During the last decade of the Galactic Republic, Jettster's Dex's Diner, situated in CoCo Town on Coruscant, offered dishes like Endorian chicken pot pie and fried Endorian chicken.
The Imperial All Terrain Scout Transport walker earned the moniker "chicken walker" due to its resemblance to these creatures. The species' designation in Ewokese was "tip-yip."
Behind the scenes
The avian creatures featured in the 1984 TV movie Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure bore a resemblance to Silkies and Polish chickens, breeds characterized by either a prominent bouffant crest of feathers or plumage that mimics fur. The Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide also included the term "Endorian chicken" as a phrase for communication with the native Ewoks.
